Statement by Iceland (no 35 of 99)

Mr. President,

Iceland welcomes the delegation of Mauritania and its national report.

In the spirit of constructive engagement, Iceland recommends the following:

1. Abolish the death penalty.
2. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the ICCPR.
3. Decriminalize and legalize abortion under all circumstances.
4. Criminalize all forms of gender-based violence, including marital rape.
5. Eradicate female genital mutilation.
6. Decriminalize same-sex relations between consenting adults.
7. Expand anti-discrimination legislation to include a prohibition of discrimination on the basis of SOGIESC.
